Local Festival Pledges Support to Rainbow Trust
The Kington Langley Scarecrow Festival, which returns on June 18-19th after a three-year hiatus, will be raising money for Rainbow Trust, after choosing the charity as the recipient of its Elizabeth Coles Award.
Created to honour the founder of the festival, this award gives 25% percent of the funds raised to the chosen charity. In past years, the festival has raised £1,650 for national charity Thrombosis UK and over £2,000 for local charity Doorway.
Rainbow Trust was selected by the festival committee due to its links to Kington Langley, as the charity’s South West team operates from an office in the village.
The children’s charity supports families across the country who have a child with a life threatening or life limiting illness. Each family is provided their own support worker who enables them to make the most of their time together, giving them practical and emotional support, whenever they need it, for as long as it is needed.
"We're very excited to be back running our Scarecrow Festival in 2022 and we look forward to seeing old friends and new. It's brilliant to be able to support such a wonderful and truly local charity (you can see their office from the trail!) and bring some fun in a difficult time,” says Steve Howe, Chair of Scare.
“We’re hugely grateful to the community of Kington Langley for choosing to fundraise for us at their Scarecrow Festival this year,” continues Ellen Bloxsome, a Family Support Worker at Rainbow Trust.
“The donation will enable us to reach out to more families across the South West and support our expansion into the Gloucestershire area. It will also help us to provide more face-to-face opportunities for families to come together which is something they have really missed over the last two years.
“Thank you for your generosity. We’re looking forward to getting involved with the festival ourselves and sharing more information about the work we do with members of our local community.”
The Kington Langley Scarecrow Festival
2022 will be Kington Langley Scarecrow Festival’s 20th event and to celebrate the event will be officially opened by Wiltshire’s Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Sarah Troughton, at 11am on Saturday June 18th.
Families will be able to see 50 different scarecrows around the village themed around royalty in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
As well as the scarecrow trail, festival goers will be able to enjoy acoustic sets by local bands, stalls and circus skills workshops, as well as enjoy BBQs, cream teams, beers, cider and Pimms.
There will even be a ‘scrapheap challenge’ competition for visitors to make their own scarecrows.
Everyone is welcome to come to the Kington Langley Scarecrow Festival on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June from 10am to 5pm. Parking is available and Rainbow Trust will also be there offering visitors a chance to learn more about their hugely important work.
