Kington Langley Scarecrow Festival was on 15th & 16th June 2024 and our theme was FRUIT & VEG (yes, really!)
We had 59 different scarecrows based on a wide variety of Fruit & Veg! Congratulations to Paul R and family of Sutton Benger who won the £100 cash prize this year by getting all the answers correct (commiserations to all who got the answers right but didn't get pulled out of the hat...better luck next year!)
We had a full programme of live music at The CrowBar, and free Circus Skills instruction both days to keep the young ones happy too. With stalls and traditional fairground rides as well as some of the best Scarecrows you'll find, this is the place to be! Entry sheets/programmes will be on sale over the weekend at the car park (Village Hall- cash only) or the Info Point (Middle Common, cash or card). The programme covers the main trail (£100 prize) and the kids trail, or £1 for just the kids trail sheet (£20 Waterstones voucher prize). The trail starts from the car park of the village hall, which you can find on Google Maps, but it's circular so in theory you can start anywhere. Disabled parking (only please) is available on the corner of Ashes Lane and Upper Common (the main road through the village). SatNav might bring you down Days lane if you're coming from the M4 direction, but we would advise heading south on the A350 to the Plough Lane traffic lights and turn left there (in case you meet a tractor on Days Lane!) |
Our purpose
Our festival was started back in 2000 by Elizabeth Cole as a small village event. It proved so popular it became a yearly event and by 2010 we set ourselves 3 goals:
The Rainbow Trust, National Deaf Children's society, Doorway, Jemima's Gift, The Air Training Corps, The Scouts, our School, Church and Chapel, the Kington Langley Games club, Women's Institute, Croquet club and Tennis club...plus many more
- to be a family friendly day out that doesn't cost the earth
- to be a focal event for our community to be proud of
- to raise funds for charities and local projects.

The Elizabeth Cole award
To honour our founder, each year we give a larger donation to a designated charity, for 2024 this is the Doorway based in Chippenham, providing services for the homeless and isolated in our community.
Prime Sponsors 2024:
We are immensely grateful to all our sponsors (check them out on the Scarecrows signs around the trail) and especially to our Prime Sponsors, Broadcroft Farm and The Country Mutt.
Both are small businesses local to us here in Kington Langley.

The Country Mutt can be found nestled in the Wiltshire countryside not far from the M4 J17. We are based on an 18 acre farm in a small village called Draycot Cerne.
There is nothing more we love than taking care of your dogs at our luxury dog day care centre. Whilst you are at work or away for the day, you can be assured that your best friend is safe and in good hands. At The Country Mutt we encourage play and socialisation in an environment that has been created specifically with safety and care in mind. We love working with all ages of dogs from young puppies to the old timer and everyone inbetween. All our dog handlers are trained in dog first aid, are DBS checked and hold multiple qualifications in animal care and behaviour. We take great care in making sure your dog is safe and cared for with us. Due to the secure nature of our dog day care centre visits and viewings are by appointment only. Please contact us via our website at thecountrymutt.co.uk/ to find out more about what we have to offer. |
