The quiet village of Kington Langley in North Wiltshire is transformed into a buzzing celebration of all things Scarecrow.
At the heart of the festival is the Scarecrow Trail, centred around the village green and about 1.5mls in total length (flat, some lanes without footpaths)
Our theme for 2017 was "Myths & Legends".
With help from clues in the programme, visitors are invited to guess as many titles as they can, and there's even a £100 prize.
Alongside the main scarecrow Trail we also run a full programme of entertainment and activities. We had a brilliant "Sound Stage" showcasing local bands, singers and choirs.
You'll also find a feast of high quality refreshments at affordable prices, sourced locally where we can. This includes a BBQ tent, Tea tent and "The CrowBar". Full on village cream teas are available at the Church and Chapel.
In 2107 we are really pleased to again have two full days of activities for the kids. FREE circus skills workshops available when the trail is open (and conveniently near the CrowBar tent!). There will be a Family tent with activities for the younger ones too, and we've booked the Donkey Rides and Princesses (see the programme for timings).
Then of course we have the stalls, charity stalls, kids rides, there really is something for everyone. New for 2017 we are holding a "School Fair" at Langley Fitzurse School which will include PTA stalls and a selection of "collections" presented by the children of the school.
What's it all in aid of?
The festival is way for us to fundraise for the various charity and community projects based in and around Kington Langley. Through sales of programmes and refreshments we have raised over £30,000 over the years, benefiting organisations like Kington Langley DeFib units, Langley Fitzurse CofE Primary School, 1304 Chippenham Air Cadets as well as the village WI, church, chapel, croquet club and playing fields.
In 2015 we created the "Elizabeth Coles Award" to honour our belated friend who came up with the idea for Scarecrows back in 2000. This is our prime charity for each year and in 2017 we will be supporting the National Deaf Children's Society which is close to our hearts here on the committee for KL Scarecrows. We really appreciate your support.
